American Diabetes Month – Day 11

Veteran’s Day

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of the soldiers that have fought on our behalf.  They have placed themselves in harms way to protect our freedoms.  Today is a day that we have set aside to honor them.  My family and I are grateful for the sacrifices that they and their families have made.

A 2011 article on the US Department of Veterans Affairs website claims that nearly 25% of the VA paitients have type 2 diabetes.  That is an alarming number considering the fact that most of those patients have other conditions that are being treated.  Diabetes can complicate just about any treatment plan.

Another point that was brought up in this article is that any veterans that were exposed to Agent Orange will be treated for diabetes without having to prove that their diabetes is linked to their military service in order to receive VA benefits to treat it.

Being exposed to a substance that can cause diabetes is just another risk that our soldies face.  I have the utmost respect for those who have served and are currently serving.  Thank you.
